Religious Education-  Kay Bucciantini mentioned that changing the mass time from 10:15 to 10:30 would allow the religious education one hour and fifteen minutes to teach.  Father Ken also stated that changing the mass time would allow the choir to practice before mass.  Also, Father feels that practice beforehand makes it easier on Kenny Myrick and hopefully improves participation in the adult choir.

New Business

Change in 10:15 Mass Time-  The reasons are stated above in 4.5.  The motion was made by Kay Bucciantini and seconded by Bruce.  It was suggested that the time change occur as soon as possible and decided upon the council that the change be in effect beginning October 1, 2006.

Morning of Refection for the council-  Father mentioned that the parish council hadn’t met prior to our new year to discuss the mission of the parish council.  Father Ken suggested that the “morning of reflection” take place soon.  The council decided upon October 28th at 9:00 am at the home of Kelly Oliver.

Parish Council Meeting-  Stewardship meets the week prior to Parish Council.  In order to give them more time, it was suggested that Stewardship submit the minutes of their committee one month after the meeting.  However, any motions that need to be discussed by the council will be emailed to Kelly Oliver and sent with the agenda.

Capital Campaign Update-  Father Ken mentioned that any members on the council are welcomed to attend the Capital Campaign Meeting on October 5th at 5:00.

Social Justice request for 25% of the October 5th Sunday collection-  Sandy Kinnan explained that the money from the collection would be used for “Operation Renovation” to repair the domestic abuse center located in our community.  It was suggested that we take the average of the last two fifth Sunday second collections for “Operation Renovation”.  A motion was made to approve the use of the collection by Bruce Launey and seconded by Brad LaCombe.

Letter of explanation from the Diocese of Biloxi concerning property insurance-  The letter said that basically Hurricane Katrina was an unusual storm.  It would be unreasonable to insure the entire amount totaling up to $100 million.  The cost of insurance for the area has increased dramatically.  Sacred Heart Church is not responsible for our property alone, but everyone in the diocese supports the entire diocese. Therefore, we must keep the premium within reach of the diocese.  This explains the reasons behind our current coverage.

Open Discussion-  Kay Bucciantini suggested that a part-time paid position become available to assist Jean Beckett with filing and phone calls.  It was explained that the issue must first be sent to the Finance committee.  Kay Bucciantini was told to write a proposal and present it to the Finance Committee.  Ronnie Doleac and Bud Browning met with Father Ken to discuss the finances of the parish.  It was decided that monthly meetings for the Finance Committee will resume.  Claudette Landrum requested that all scheduled meetings, date, time and location, be reported to the office.  She also mentioned that when changes are made it is important to keep her informed of those changes.  Monique Rowell asked to change one of the rooms in the Parish Life Center to make it more inviting to smaller groups.  She wanted to bring in some new furniture, at no cost to the church, to create another meeting space within the building.  Approval for the changes was given based on the understanding that the room must be appropriate and conducive to all age groups.  Sandy Kinnan passed out a flyer about the upcoming Social Justice conference.  She discussed the outline for the event as well as opportunities and guest speakers.

Adjournment-  Maureen Martin made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was seconded by Larry Grant.

Closing Prayer-  “Our Father’
