Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Thirty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time

November 11, 2007

The late comedian Henny Youngman was famous for jokes about his wife: “Someone stole all my credit cards, but I won’t be reporting it. The thief spends less than my wife did.” Youngman’s signature joke was the one-liner: Take my wife — please!”

In today’s Gospel, the Sadducees present Jesus with the trick question about who will take the wife when all the husbands die. They ask, “On the day when all the dead will rise, whose wife will she be? All seven were married to her.” At this point Henny might have said:  “I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.”
Jesus answers the Sadducees with an affirmation of our own resurrection to new life. He tells us that we will not marry in the world to come because having children will no longer be necessary. We will all be like angels who live forever.

Sacred Heart Cemetery

The Catholic Cemetery is a sacred place and consecrated ground. As a final resting place for members of our Sacred Heart families and their loved ones, our cemetery is at the service of God and his people as they rest for eternity until the Lord returns.
Plots to our cemetery may be purchased for  $450.00 through the month of November. Following that, plots can only be purchased when a death occurs or in November 2008. To reserve a burial place 10% of the entire cost is needed with full payment required in a year. If you have an immediate family member who is not registered at Sacred Heart, the cost is $550.00. Only when full payment is received, are the burial places considered “purchased.”
No burial place is guaranteed”  nor is burial permitted until payment has been made in full.

Prayer for our Veterans

We ask for blessings on all those who have served their country in the armed forces

We ask for healing for the veterans who have been wounded, in body and soul, in conflicts around the globe.

We pray especially for the young men and women, in the thousands, who are coming home from Iraq with injured bodies and traumatized spirits.

Bring solace to them, O Lord; may we pray for them when they cannot pray.

We ask for, echoing John Paul II, an end to wars and the dawning of a new era of peace.

Have mercy on all our veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq.

Bring peace to their hearts and peace to the regions in which they fought.

Bless all the soldiers who served in non-combative posts.

May their calling to service continue in their lives in many positive ways.

Give us all the creative vision to see a world which, grown weary with fighting,

Moves to affirming the life of every human being and so moves beyond war.

Hear our prayer, O Prince of Peace, hear our prayer.

We will have a Communion Service at 8:15 a.m. on
Tuesday and Wednesday, November 13 and 14.

Thank you Senior CYO for illuminating the graves at Sacred Heart cemetery last Friday and for spending your free time on Saturday doing yard work for our senior parishioners.  Your service is greatly appreciated.  The Parish Office has received several calls commenting on how hard you worked and what a great job you did.
