Approval of the Agenda- Sandy Kinnan made a motion to approve the agenda and Monique Rowell seconded it.
Pastor’s Comments- Father Ken was conducting a funeral Mass.
Approval of Committee Minutes- There was a change to be made in the minutes for Liturgy Committee. Terri Knauss volunteered to be in charge of the environment for Holy Thursday. Finance Committee stated that a budget needed to be submitted for Hispanic Ministry. Social Justice added that the Youth Committee would be having an evening on topics and reviewing films that deal with social justice. The purpose is to get the teens thinking on a larger perspective of world issues. The Social Justice was excited about a representative from the High School calling to get a speaker to discuss community and global issues. David Oliver and Joe Kinnan would go as the representatives. Also, healthcare is such a major concern for many members of the Spanish speaking community. Social Justice is working on getting the Camp Street Clinic open on Sundays after Mass and providing an interpreter. In addition, Social Justice is working with Gil Achter on being a part of Forever 39 and having a talk on justice issues. Ronnie Doleac made a motion to accept the minutes with the amendments made and Cindy Hooks seconded.
Old Business
Kelly Oliver spoke with Stephanie Land about the outcome of the Blood Drive and improvements that needed to be made for next year. Some Stephanie’s concerns were the timing of the Blood Drive (Mardi Gras weekend), the effectiveness of the staff from United Blood Services and their tardiness in setting up for the event, and the lack of signage on Sunday that was supposed to be located outside of the gym. Ronnie Doleac added that the attitude of the workers was poor and others agreed. Other members agreed and stated that they took up to two hours to complete their blood donation. Sandy Kinnan agreed to be in charge of writing a letter stating our concerns to the United Blood Services. Monique Rowell stated that she would be in charge of working with Sandy Kinnan and Stephanie Land to put together a recommendation for the next Blood Drive. Family Life Committee, therefore, will keep up with these suggestions and recommendations.
The search for a new principal for Sacred Heart School continues. The first man that was interviewed was out of the price range. The second interviewee will be this weekend. Mr. Ladner was very impressed by him and his credentials look great. There is still another candidate that has not yet interviewed. He has lots of experience and fabulous references and recommendations.
Jesed Music Ministry will be performing in the gym on June 9th. Parishioners are encouraged to contact business owners to help sponsor the event hosted by Sacred Heart Parish. Carlos Gonzalez will be hosting a workshop on June 10th involving music ministry. Ronnie Doleac suggested that an event committee be established.
New Business
Carlow Choir wants to sell raffle tickets after Mass one weekend to help fund a trip to Rome to sing for the Pope. The Carlow Choir is a private organization. Cindy Hooks had the “Solicitation Guidelines” which state that “in order to solicit funds, the organization must be affiliated with Sacred Heart Parish. Other organizations must be approved by the Parish Council”. Also, “announcements concerning the solicitation must be given to the Pastor in writing”. Sandy Kinnan made a motion that the Pastor gives consideration to an announcement in the bulletin informing parishioners of the raffle with a contact name and number. The motion passed by majority vote.
Construction has begun for the renovation and additions to Sacred Heart School.
Finance Committee needs all budgets. Hispanic Ministry still needs to iron out some details. Javier Marroquin is working on a formal proposal to allow the Hispanic Ministry to become its own individual committee, not a subcommittee of Social Justice. Hispanic Ministry will need to have a mission statement and elect a representative. The representatives of the Hispanic Ministry Committee will meet at the next Social Justice meeting to make a decision about whether it is ready to stand on its own or if the committee needs more time to promote and strengthen itself. Also, there was a drop in Sunday collections by 11.8%. Bruce Launey asked for Robin Jones to do an analysis of what area of the collections the major drop is occurring. Bruce Launey raised the question as to whether or not the drop was occurring based on the dismissal of second collections. The Finance Committee will work to identify the problem and Stewardship will work to resolve it.
The Sacred Heart cemetery is moving along. The cemetery committee is working to establish policies and pricing. It is on course to open November 2, 2007. The committee is currently working on burial plots, monument markers, and restrictions. There is still much cleaning and clearing to be done before fencing and paving. There will be several more clean up days ahead. We want to use as much volunteer labor as possible before we pay for improvements. A brochure will be available soon.
Parish Council elections are soon upon us. We will try to get Kathy Zipple to head up the elections. Lynn Landrum, Cindy Hooks, Brad Lacombe and Larry Grant will be finishing their terms. This year will be a more prayerful experience. There should be no refusals for office if nominated by the other members of the council. It was established last year that the Vice President of Parish Council would fill the role of President. This year’s election will be for a new Vice President and a Secretary. There will be three newly elected members from the parish and one appointed member by Father Ken.
Open Discussion- Habitat for Humanity is wanting to build 25 new homes.
A motion was made by Bruce Launey and seconded by Monique Rowell to adjourn the meeting.
We closed the meeting with the “Our Father”.
10.0Next meeting is April 18, 2007.
