Thirteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Pauline Year

Pope Benedict XVI has declared June 28, 2008 to June 29,  2009 the year of St. Paul in celebration of the 2,000 anniversary of the saint’s birth. St. Paul, the Apostle of the Gentiles, was particularly committed to bringing the Good News to all people, and made prodigious efforts for the unity and harmony of all Christians.

If you went into your bathroom, closed the door and stared at yourself in the mirror, who would be looking back? Do we really know who we are? Some people do this on a regular basis as a kind of reality check in an attempt to keep themselves grounded.

Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM, once told a convention of diaconate directors that after they ask themselves who they are, they might also want to ask themselves “whose” they are. Who do we belong to? Who do we follow?

Like Saints Peter and Paul in today’s Gospel, we too are part of the rock upon which the church is built, and indeed they keys to the kingdom of heaven are promised to us all. (Deacon Dick Folger, Celebration)

                      Eucharistic Adoration

A very important reason to make a Holy Hour before our Eucharistic Lord is to grow more and more into his likeness...as Paul puts it, “We are transfigured into his likeness, from splendor to splendor.” We become like that which we gaze upon...looking at our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament for an hour transforms our heart in a mysterious way just as the face of Moses was transformed after his companionship with  God on the mountain.

Come and adore and be transformed into the likeness of the One you gaze upon

           Monday...Sacred Heart 9:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.

         St. Thomas 6:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m.

¨       St. Thomas will not have Adoration the evening of July 7th due to the long July 4th weekend.

¨       Sacred Heart is in need of more adorers during the hours of 1:00-2:00 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m. Won’t you consider coming during these hours? You will be the one most blessed. Call Stephan at 601.264.8075.

Independence Day

July 4th commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The United States of America was founded on Christian principles. “Freedom of speech and freedom of religion” are an essential part of the document.  We, the silent majority, must speak up and return the “freedom of religion” that the Revolutionary War fought so hard to obtain.

Fr. Ken, Deacon Tom, Deacon Warren, and the parish staff wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July.
