PastorÕs Comments

©      Sacred Heart School – brief discussion of remaining bills to Charlie Finnegan and Larry Albert.

©      Campaign for Catholic Education/Sacred Heart – Fr. Ken reports that there in no new news.

©      2 Challenges to pray about.  Fr. Ken handed out a sheet with a couple of challenges.  Ronnie incorporated these discussions with Shared Wisdom and Shared Vision.

o       We are increasingly becoming a multicultural parish and the time has come to address how we are going to handle worship and liturgy to accommodate this.

o       The Ministers of Hospitality have been counting people at all of the masses.  There is a chart on the sheet that outlines the population at each mass with the collection amounts.  The church will accommodate 450 adults seated and this number was used for comparison.  The question presented by Fr. Ken is Òdo we need all of these masses?Ó  This will be discussed at the next Pastoral Council meeting.  Maureen reminded everyone that this issue did not need to be discussed outside of the meeting.  She also brought up the fact that we needed to consider Fr. KenÕs well being when making the decision.

Approval of Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes – No additions or corrections recommended.  Monique Rowell made a motion to approve, Kelly Oliver seconded and all were in favor.

Approval of Committee Minutes – No additions or corrections were made to any of the committee minutes made available to the Council.  Sandy Kinnan made a motion to approve, Kay Bucciantini seconded, and all were in favor.

Old Business

©      Ministry Fair – Greg reports that the displays are being updated and theme was ÒDiscipleship – Living the Call.Ó   A letter was distributed from S&D asking for assistance in various ways for the ministry fair.  All of the posters will also be bilingual.

©      Parish Mission – Jean reports that there is nothing to add to previous discussions.  Fr. Lynch will be here the week before, the weekend and week of the mission.

©      Pastoral Council Retreat – ÒBlessed AssuranceÓ  Arrival time should be between 8-9am to start promptly at 9am and end at 3pm.  The retreat will include 4 talks with individual work as well as small and large group work. Try to watch the 3 movies:  ItÕs a Wonderful Life, Places in the Heart and My Life.  ItÕs at KellyÕs home at 112 Heatherwood off of South 40th.

©      Facilities Update – Lynn Landrum

o       Discussed the removal of the remaining asbestos in the gym area to that it no longer has to be reported.

o       The Parish Life Center is being found open on many occasions and recommendations are being taken to help with this matter.  Lynn recommends locking knobs on all the doors.  It was discussed to consider a separate lock on the nursery as well as the kitchen.  An alarm system was discussed.  These recommendations will be taken to the facilities committee for further discussion.

o       Updated Facility Use Policies were submitted for approval.  Maureen Martin made a motion to approve as written, Kelly Oliver seconded and all were in favor.

o       Lynn attended the Historical Conservation Committee meeting.  It was recommended that the trailers be painted the color of the school.  Lynn invited the committee members to come and see the school.

o       The speaker system upstairs in church went out.  When it is available, the sound will be FM modulated.  This can also be applied to anyone who is hearing impaired in the main section of the church by having an FM radio and tuning into a certain station to hear the mass.  Discussion entailed about how to improve the use of the Òcry room.Ó

©      Committees vs. Ministries – Fr. Ken recommends waiting until after the retreat to discuss this.

©      Responsorial Psalm – No report.

©      Name Tags – Jim Maloney is ordering.

©      Ministry Minute – Missed Dec. 15 mass.  Fr. Ken recommended just focusing on the Ministry Fair itself.  May be good to do during Easter.  Ronnie asks that S&D assign committees.

©      Parish Historian – nothing to report.

©      Finance update – Dave has spoken to Robbin Jones about making finance reports easier to read and understand.  At this time, there is a different Excel spreadsheet for each committee.  He also reports that income is down 8% from 7-11/06 to 7-11/07.  Expenses though were also down 8% due to Fr. KenÕs diligence.  However, income as recently increased.  Speculation that it was down due to Capital Campaign.  Payments are being received for Capital Campaign.  Bill Doherty and Lynn McCrory were added to the Finance Committee.  Ways to help with finances were discussed.  One suggestion is to send a letter in November or December suggesting that if you have extra money and want to donate before the end of the year to give it to the church.  Raphael suggests recommending tagging the donation to a specific need in the parish.  Dr. Andereck suggests having a time set for Fr. Ken to be available to accept donations personally (for example: New YearÕs Eve).  Maureen suggests writing a tasteful blurb in the bulletin as well.

New Business

©      SHS Scrip program – This is being opened to parishioners.  Order forms were given to council members as well as a list of participating merchants.  There was a suggestion made to sell Wal-Mart and restaurant cards at the masses.

©      Parish Blood drive – Sandy Kinnan reports that all the slots are filled for the blood drive.

©      SHS Seafood Jamboree – Dr. Andereck reports that it will be one day only on April 19 with a limited menu and live music.  She also reports that the school will be in attendance on Martin Luther King Day, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Monday after Easter Sunday.  Permissions were granted by the state to have school on MLK day.  Raphael suggests printing this in the bulletin so parishioners are aware.

©      Christmas Candlelight – Kay reports that this is very labor intense and there are not enough kids to take care of the church and school grounds.  She recommends that the school take the responsibility for the school grounds and Dr. Andereck agreed.  This always occurs the second weekend of December.  School kids can get service hours.

©      The next Pastoral Council meeting is scheduled for March 19 which is during Holy Week.  It was decided to move this meeting to March 26.

Adjournment –Monique Rowell made a motion to adjourn, Sandy Kinnan seconded and all were in favor at 8:20.

Closing Prayer was done by Lorena Marroquin.

Next Pastoral Council meeting is March 26 at 7:00pm at the parish office.
