Arise

A program called "Arise" has been designed for Catholics and non-Catholics, who are searching for a new or more meaningful Faith experience, and those taking instruction in the Catholic Faith. This is a low key, enjoyable, thought-provoking weekend "away from it all." The weekend is conducted by a team of laypersons, assisted by members of the clergy. Time for informal discussion is available after each presentation. Dress is casual, and meals are served Sat. and Sun. There is no cost to participants. For those who wish to contribute, donations are gratefully accepted and used to bring others to Christ through "Arise."

Baptism

Parents of infants and pre-catechetical age children seeking baptism are encouraged to contact the office to schedule an appointment for baptismal class. The life of each child is a precious gift to our faith community. We are here to support families in the nurturance and faith development of their children.

Childrens Liturgy of the Word

Liturgy of the Word is offered to 3-6 year olds.  We offer this special Liturgy at the 10:15 a.m. Mass on Sundays.  Children are dismissed after the opening prayer and are led by their teachers to the Parish Hospitality room where they listen and experience Gods word, designed just for them.  Once everyone has gathered, the children get to sing and ask for forgiveness by saying the sorry prayer.  We then prepare ourselves to listen to the Gospel by singing the Alleluia.  Once the Gospel has been read from the Childrens Lectionary, the children reflect and get involved in great discussions regarding the reading.  Before the children return to Mass, the teachers provide a wonderful activity that has been designed in correlation with the Gospel reading.  Childrens Liturgy of the Word helps the children learn and understand the Liturgy of the Word by keeping it simple, age appropriate, and fun.  We also want the children to feel comfortable in participating in the Liturgy of the Word.  Most importantly, we want to help our children feel the joy of the Liturgy of the Word.

Coffee on the Grounds

Coffee on the Grounds is a Family Life sponsored event that offers an opportunity to meet with fellow parishioners after Mass the third Sunday of each month September through May.  Coffee and doughnuts are provided after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Masses.  The event is manned by volunteers, and this past year has been very successful using various ministries to supply the volunteers.  Sacred Heart ministry groups that volunteered are Family Life, RCIA, CYO, Childrens Liturgy, PTO, Altar Society, and St. Vincent de Paul.

FAMILIA

FAMILIA is a national apostolate of Catholic laity committed to the well-being of the family. Thousands of Husbands and Wives around the world have found a treasure in FAMILIA, as they uncover the personal message in the teachings of the Church as they pertain to marriage and the family. Participants build a profound understanding of the dignity of the human person, the incredible riches of the sacrament of matrimony and the key elements for a strong and successful family.

FAMILIA programs and curricula respect and build on the distinctive roles of husband/father and wife/mother by offering separate but corresponding programs for both men and women. Topics to be studied include: Developing a prayer life and persevering in the life of grace, God's plan for marriage and the family, living out our baptismal promises to the fullest, and God's esteem for the dignity and vocation of motherhood.

Familia Family Life Teams meet in the Parish Center on Wed. and Friday mornings every other week. Registration for the Fall Women's FAMILIA I occurs every year in the spring. Childcare is provided.

Grief and Bereavement

A bereavement outreach of food and support is offered to the family following the funeral. The deceased and their families are prayerfully remembered at mass daily throughout the year. The deceased of the parish and their families are also remembered in a special service on all souls day and at the parish life celebration annually.

Volunteers in this ministry are usually called upon one or two times a year to prepare food.

"..whatever you did for one of mine, you did for me."
     Matthew 25:40

Homebound Ministry

Trained ministers to the parish homebound visit weekly in the homes of families. Those who prefer telephone contact are called weekly. This ministry facilitates a continued connection of our parish community with those who are absent from the assembly due to poor health. The parish currently serves approximately 60 homebound members.

Marriage

Engaged couples anticipating marriage at Sacred Heart are asked to contact the family life office at the time of engagement. The preparation process is vital to building a sacramental marriage.

Ministry Of Mothers Sharing (M.O.M.S.)

Attention All Mothers!

The mission of the Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) is to provide meaningful opportunities for mothers to gather and support one another, across the life span, in the spiritual, personal and social development of family and community. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, throughout the school year, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for group discussions, guest speakers, prayer services and luncheons. Volunteers from the MOMS group outreach to the community by providing “Dinner and Diapers” for new mothers and plan other opportunities for outreach, as well. The MOMS have social gatherings throughout the year including “Moms Night Out” and their annual Christmas party.

Parent Morning Out Program

Parent Morning Out offers a structured program of social and learning experiences for young children ages 2 to 4 in a Catholic Christian setting through a variety of daily activities. The daily schedule includes prayer, story time, free play, outdoor play, music and daily lesson/activity/craft. The program curriculum utilizes seasonal, liturgical and biblical themes. The Morning Out Program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-12 noon, in the Parish Nursery - September through May. Class size is limited and registration is required.

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process for exploring the Catholic Faith and incorporating those who may decide to become Catholic. The RCIA is marked by stages of growth and development based on the Sunday Scripture Readings which help persons become disciples of Jesus Christ. Their journey of faith is one shared by our community through the liturgical rites.  The Rite of Election celebrates their intention to join our community.  The Rite of Election or Enrollment celebrates their will to receive the sacraments.  During Lent, we celebrate the scrutinies, which is a time of reflection intensely focused on conversion and final preparation for receiving the sacraments of initiation.  The community joins them in prayer as we too are preparing ourselves to celebrate the Pascal mysteries.  Tired and hungry, we approach the greatest of vigils on Holy Saturday Night full of hope and anticipation.  The sacraments of initiation bring great joy and all are united in our baptismal promises as one community of many who trusts in Gods plan of salvation.

Sacraments

We Catholics are a sacramental people. We believe we encounter Jesus in a special way when we celebrate any of the seven sacraments. There is always preparation for those who are celebrating the sacraments for the first time. Parents are offered preparation as well as students. While age is not a determining factor when celebrating, usually children are baptized within the first year of birth. First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Communion are celebrated in the second grade, and preparation for Confirmation begins in the freshman year of High School with the celebration usually in the junior year. We are willing to prepare any students who are willing to do the proper formation.

Senior Adult Ministry

Senior Adults meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 306 Walnut St. for luncheon.

Womans Choir

"Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all you lands.  Sing to the Lord; bless His Name; announce His salvation, day after day."
         Psalm 96:1-2

These Bible verses are our favorite!  The Womens Choir begins each practice with scripture and closes with our circle prayer.  Our choir sings on the third Sunday of the month at the 10:15 Mass.  We practice on the first Thursday of the month at 12 noon, the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. and again on the Sunday we sing at 9:00 a.m.  Although we enjoy one anothers company and the sisterhood we have formed, it is not mandatory that each member attend all practices.  Scripture tells us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord and that is what we enjoy doing.  Come join us!!
